Channel 4 scrapbooks...

I watch so many programs on channel 4, mainly the food programmes. So today whilst R was at work, I decided to have a go at using the new scrapbook tool on their website. Basically you choose the recipes, video or whatever you like and add it to your scrapbook. Your scrapbook is just one page which lists everything you save there as a little icon. It means all you favourite things are in one place. Think pinterest.

Check out my scrapbook here. It's pretty much recipes i've seen on tv that I want to try out myself!

tired...

Me and R have been on a 2 hour walk today. After a busy morning doing things like going to opticians and hair cuts etc we decided we'd follow a walk from a leaflet we picked up at a nearby wildlife reserve recently. There was a two hour walk and then an optional extension taking the walk up to about four hours or maybe more we reckon. Anyway we decided today as we only had half the day left we would go for the two hour one and we had lots of fun! I think we will definitely being doing more walks in the future. We are already planning on doing the fourish hour one soon, hopefully with a few friends and a picnic and maybe a stop somewhere for dinner on the way home if we are not all asleep. So now i am very very tired, good night all!

PS im trying to find a link to a walk online, no success so far, ill keep you posted!

start of my Open Uni journey...

Sorry, it's been a little while since I've posted, been having a busy weekend. First of all, the anniversary party  was great and my cake went down really well. I will definitely be making more cakes for people! I have no idea what I was so worried about.

The other reason I've been really busy is open uni. Yep, I am currently studying for my degree in computing and ICT. I choose the open uni after having to take a gap year at the last minute due to illness so I never got to go off to uni as planned. I saw an advert for open uni one day and realised it was the answer to all my problems. I signed up straight away.

I will be starting my first two modules very soon; MST121 Using Mathematics and TU100 My digital life. MST121 is apparently 'an enjoyable introduction to university level maths.' Well I don't know about you but I  have never found maths to be 'enjoyable.' I'm just hoping to get this module over and done with so I can focus more on the ICT side of things.

Anyway, in July I received my first parcel from them. Loads of maths revision and two preparatory assignments, one a computer marked assignment (CMA) and the other a tutor marked assignment (TMA). They are both practise ones and don't count towards our final marks. However, as I am so bad at maths I decided to give them a go. A couple of days ago, I submitted the CMA and today I completetd the TMA all ready to send off when my tutor sends me their address.

I was pleasantly surprised. I found the TMA pretty easy going and I loved the sense of achievement I got from completing it. I felt so defeated last year when I didn't go to uni and I have a feeling so many people were disappointed with me too. But with open uni I am going to change this. I know that I can do this!

Cake disasters...

Ok, so the whole cake thing didn't go entirely to plan. I'll start from the start. Went out for a meal last night with R's family. I ordered this lovely looking bacon and cheese burger. Anyway, it came out and I was tucking in when I realised it was tasting a bit funny. And smelling funny. So after everyone around the table sniffed it and tasted it they decided the meat was off so we sent it back. However, I had already eaten half of it by then. They claimed it wasn't off but still gave it us off our bill. Luckily though I haven't been ill or anything but have been scared of being ill all morning.

Anyway, the cake. First off, I didn't make quite enough mixture for the tin I was using, so I put it in the oven hoping it would rise. I over cooked it. They left gaps when I tried to stick the top and bottom together. However, it didn't turn out too bad overall.

I messed up completely with the cupcakes. I misread the recipe, it said it made 6 but I stupidly put it into 12 cases. So there's like the smallest layer of cake at the bottom and a huge amount of butter icing on the top to make up for it. By this time I was exhausted, so I couldn't be bothered to pipe it on so just spooned it on instead.

Here's the few pictures that I did manage to take. The cake should also have a personalised ribbon on it around the edge but it hasn't come yet :(

I am so tired and have a busy day getting ready for the party tomorrow, so good night everyone!

anniversary gifts...

Right, it's my parents anniversary this weekend and they have decided to have a bit of a party. I decided that as a gift I'd make them a few things. I've settled on a cake and some cupcakes for the party.

So to gather supplies, me and R went on a little adventure to the new hobbycraft in Oxford today. I say adventure because a journey that should only take us about 20 minutes by car ended up taking us an hour, R took a few wrong turnings!

Anyway, the shop was amazing! I love being surrounded by all the crafty things. I could have easily spent a fortune. R was there to make sure I only brought what I needed though. Here is a quick picture of some of the cake supplies I got.

I also managed to pick up the following little treats for myself teehee. Aren't the ears on the mouse just too cute?! Eeeeek! R wanted to get it so that I could make it for him but I told he can make it and I will help. Hopefully, I'll have pictures of him completed to show you soon. And the game may have been from the toys r us next doors ;)

I also picked up loads of these craft leaflets in hobbycraft with loads of fun looking projects on them. I might give some of them a try when I get some free time.

A couple of minutes ago I also realised that I've been so focused on the cake and stuff, I'd completely forgot to do anything about a card. So I whipped up a quick card with some of the supplies from a magazine called lets make cards that I subscribe too. Check them out here, I love this magazine. Anyway, here's the finished thing. What do you think?

The candle I also ordered for them as a present came today. It can't be lit but has a flickering light inside it so it's just like a real one. The lovely lady who made it was kind enough to get it made it record time and got her husband to drop it off to me as well!! I kinda left all my ordering a bit late you see. If you wanna know more about the stuff she makes, check out her facebook page here. She has some really lovely items.

I'm baking the cake tomorrow, wish me luck guys!

Hello World...

Ok, so let's be honest. I have no idea what to write on my first blog post. Great start, hey? Don't worry though I have lots to tell you soon!

First things first, my name is Kyrsten. I have been wanting to start a blog for quite a while now but just never really knew how to start or what to write about. Well, I still don't really but I'm just going to go with the flow and hope for the best. I think the main reason for writing this blog is a way to express myself. I plan to talk about things I find fun and interesting and things I get up to in my daily life. I am really looking forward to it all!

So welcome to my blog and I hope you enjoy your stay.

If you want to get in touch then please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email (click on the contact tab above), I would love to hear from you!
